In December West Yorkshire Police launched its annual Op Limit: an annual winter crackdown on drink and drug driving. December is one of the highest-risk times on our roads, and a single bad decision can change lives forever.
Here at North East Leeds NPT we have carried out a number of operations across all six of our ward areas. Our Officers have stopped countless vehicles, carried out numerous breathalysers and drugs wipes.
Although we are pleased to report most drivers were abiding by the law, we have made 12 arrests as part of this operation. These were for driving under the influence of either drugs or drink or failing to provide a sample when requested. We have also seized 13 vehicles for lack of insurance or license.
Our teams have also issued 22 tickets for a range of driving offences including speeding. One of these included a vehicle driving at 74mph in a 30mph zone.
North East Leeds NPT Temporary Inspector Adam Harper said: “I am proud of the teams dedication in planning and executing all the different traffic operations over the festive period. This has also been completed alongside the normal day to day activity of the NPT. We have removed dangerous drivers from the road and undoubtedly prevented future accidents from occurring. At North East Leeds NPT our ultimate goal remains clear: reduce crime, protect the vulnerable and reassure the public. “ |
